Jammu, Sep 30
Signalling a boost to its airlift capacities in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Air Force's (IAF) newly-acquired C-130J Super Hercules made its maiden landing at the military airfield here, a defence official said Monday.
Landing at Jammu airfield Friday, the aircraft, with state of the art avionics and on-board system, has transformed IAF capability to undertake missions from short runways like in Jammu in all weather conditions, said defence spokesman S.N. Acharya in a official release here.
With the successful landing of Super Hercules, the IAF is now in a better position to meet the requirement of the Indian Army and evacuating stranded civilian passengers from Srinagar, Leh and Kargil in particular, who are heavily dependent on the air bridge for sustenance and connectivity during winter months due to sudden snowfall and subsequent blocking of highway, the spokesman added.
