Kolkata,

Three teachers including a college principal in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district said they were Tuesday assaulted for preventing an examinee - the wife of a Trinamool Congress leader - from copying during an exam. The leader denied his wife was cheating.

The incident happened in Meghnad Saha College in Itahar in the district, after the teachers confiscated the answer sheets of the examinee, the wife of a Trinamool Congress elected Zilla Parishad member from the area.

"The girl was caught cheating. So, we asked the invigilator to confiscate her papers. Subsequently, some people barged into my cabin and demanded the papers be returned. When I refused, they ransacked my cabin and assaulted me," said principal Swapna Mukherjee.

Mukherjee said a group of 10-12 outsiders entered the college and also assaulted other teachers including the invigilator who had confiscated the answer sheets.

"I heard the student is a the wife of a Trinamool elected representative from the area," said Mukherjee about the examinee who was caught cheating.

The Trinamool leader however, rubbished the allegations and claimed his "wife was molested by some teachers and not allowed to write the exam".
