New Delhi, Aug 23

 Elephants are an essential part of the Indian wildlife and saving their endangered lives is a must, feels jewellery designer Mira Gulati who is participated in the annual Elephant Parade that started in in Los Angeles on Friday.

The parade includes creative life-sized models of elephants from various parts of the globe created by renowned artists, designers and other celebrities from different parts of the world.

Gulati, known for her brand Mirari, will not only support but has also designed one of the elephants for the parade that was launched in the year 2006 as an attempt to conserve and bestow the welfare of the lives of the Asian elephants.

"Elephants are an essential part of the Indian wildlife and saving their endangered lives is a must, the elephant designed by us will acquire the rich culture of India and my love for it," said Gulati. 

"These elephants will be auctioned towards the end of the event and the proceeds will be donated to the Asian Elephant Foundation," she added.

The three-day even kicked-off with a free public opening ceremony at the Doheny State Beach. 

"My support is minimal in front of the entire parade, but being my first exposure, I look forward to the best in the best possible manner," Gulati said in a statement.

The elephants will be primarily placed in high-pedestrian-traffic, visitor-focused locations around Dana Point in California, including Dana Point Harbor, local beaches, public parks, and in resort properties.

Later they will be displayed at the Ritz carlton from Nov 10 to Nov 17 for viewing and auction.

Mira wishes to spread awareness in India and all over about the threatened extinction of elephants in Asia through the event.
