Minister Clement Consults Canadians on Open Government

August 19, 2013 11:14 PM

Ottawa –

The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board, today launched online consultations inviting Canadians to share their views on the Government of Canada's progress to meet the first-year commitments in its Open Government Action Plan.

"We want to hear from Canadians regarding our Government's progress to meet our first-year goals," said Minister Clement. "We have travelled to a number of cities to hear directly from Canadians, and this online consultation is one more opportunity to weigh in and share thoughts on our Open Government activities."

Canada's Open Government initiatives are intended to provide Canadians with more opportunities to learn about government and participate in the democratic process. Canada joined the international Open Government Partnership in 2012, and subsequently released Canada's Action Plan on Open Government. The Action Plan is a comprehensive strategy with 12 concrete commitments for advancing Open Government along three streams of activity: Open Data, Open Information and Open Dialogue.

"Now, just over a year later, we remain committed to providing Canadians the opportunity to have their say on our open government activities and the progress made to date," added Minister Clement.

The online consultation will be open for three weeks, from Monday, August 19 to Monday, September 9, 2013, on data.gc.ca. The results of this consultation will help develop the Government of Canada's Report on implementing the Action Plan's Year 1 commitments. This report will be published on data.gc.ca, and will be shared with our international partners in the Open Government Partnership.
