Calgary: Paramedics say a young woman is seriously hurt but lucky after falling from a cliff into a secluded area near Canmore Saturday afternoon.
She fell from a cliff in the Grassi Lakes area, about 110 km west of Calgary, shortly before 1:30 p.m., suffering broken bones and other traumatic injuries.
EMS spokesman Adam Loria said responders arrived to bystanders who knew where the woman was.
“This climber had fallen into a secluded area that was inaccessible by vehicle,” Loria said.
Loria said she’d fallen six to seven metres.
“I don’t know exactly what activity was taking place (at the time of the fall),” Loria said.
“It’s fair to say there was some type of climbing.”
The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was awake and alert when paramedics got to her.
Reaching her took some doing, Loria said: Rescuers had to hike it.
She was treated and stabilized on-scene but was unable to walk — a helicopter got her back to an ambulance, which took her to hospital in Canmore.
She’s since been moved to Foothills hospital in Calgary where she was listed as being in serious but stable condition Saturday night.
“I would consider her quite lucky,” Loria said.
