Chandigarh, July 27 : Six boys and girls from Chandigarh Academy for Rural Tennis (CHART), the flagship programme of Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association, returned home today after a three-week successful achievement with Madrid Tennis Association in Spain. The budding players were received at the Government Tennis Stadium in Sector 10 by Mr. Rajan Kashyap, Patron in chief CLTA, who is also chairman of CHART, and Mr. Jai Singh Gill, President CLTA.
During the special foreign attachment the players, led by Gajendra Singh, CLTA’s Director Coaching and Development, received specialized advanced training with some of the most reputed coaches of Spain. Apart from exposure to world class and latest coaching techniques, the players also seized the opportunity of playing prestigious junior tournaments in Madrid. All the players performed creditably, with two of them winning or reaching the finals in two tournaments.
On the occasion Mr. Rajan Kashyap disclosed that the visit of CLTA’s team to Spain followed a Memorandum of Understanding between CLTA and Madrid Tennis Foundation signed in Chandigarh between CLTA and MTF on May 18, 2013. The MOU provides for 2-3 visits annually by coaches from Spain for conducting advanced coaching camps for CLTA’s players in Chandigarh, and training visits twice a year by CLTA’s high potential children to Madrid, Spain. Mr. Kashyap stated that the first camp in Chandigarh was conducted by Mr. Juan Carlos Antrade in May, 2013, which was followed by this latest foreign tour by the youngsters.
Speaking to the media Mr. Jai Singh Gill, president CLTA expressed complete satisfaction with the working of the unique bilateral agreement between CLTA and MTF. With the implementation of the MOU CLTA considers that Chandigarh Centre for Tennis Excellence has become functional.
Mr. Gill stated that while the team that went to Madrid consisted of CHART trainees, for the next attachment visit to Spain CLTA would also include the highest performers from CLTA in the team to travel to Spain. The next visit of Spanish coaches to Chandigarh is slated for November, 2013. The dates for further visits by CLTA players to Spain would be finalized in consultation with MTF officials.
Mr. Kashyap and Mr. Gill disclosed that the gains from the visits would be evaluated scientifically with Gajendra Singh, so that long term benefits to CLTA and the players can accrue. The idea is that the Centre for Excellence at CLTA should accelerate the country’s efforts to build champions of class in the game of tennis.
