Probably, many of you would have read the positive comments about Chennai Ungalai Anbudan Varaverkirathu from legendary directors and new age movie makers from Tamil cinema. But sadly, the movie is not even 10% of what these directors are boasting about.
Actually, is Chennai Ungalai Anbudan Varaverkirathu a film or compilation of routine life of uninteresting youngsters who don't have any other job than boozing and having lecherous phone conversations with girls?
Chella Pandi( Simha) wants to become a filmmaker in Kollywood but every time when he starts to write a script, barriers come in the form of his friends and the rest of the film tells us whether he really completes the script and achieve his dream or not?
Yes, we agree that the director Marudhupandian has tried to make an authentic portrayal of what is happening with some bachelors in Chennai but at many places he has gone overboard that the film gives an experience of watching a B grade movie.
There are of course scenes which hit us hard, especially when one of the protagonists, Karthik prefers to make out with his girl friend instead of looking after his sick mom who later passes away, his guilty mindset has been well registered but the problem with the film is that there is no proper screenplay and all we see is some random scenes at random locations with new characters popping out all of a sudden.
Just because some scenes depict the harsh reality, we can't celebrate Chennai Ungalai Anbudan Varaverkirathu. Had, the film got better dialogues, better actors, better screenplay, better production value, better technicalities, better theme and better climax; maybe it would have been a great pleasure for us to appreciate the movie as cult classic but now we see this as another amateurish film from a wannabe film maker.
