Today, the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, congratulated the Halifax Port Authority and the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1843 on the renewal of their collective agreement.
The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program’s Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.

- The Halifax Port Authority manages the Halifax harbour and federal real property under its control.
- The collective agreement, which covers general operation and maintenance employees, expired on December 31, 2014.
