The Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued the following statement on an alleged terrorist plot in Toronto.
“I would like to begin by commending the officers of the Canada Border Services Agency for taking action against an individual to prevent what appears to have been plans for a terrorist attack on Canadian soil. I would also like to thank security and law enforcement partners at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service for their continued dedication to the security of our citizens.
While I cannot comment on a matter that is currently before the Immigration and Refugee Board, I want to be clear that our Government’s top priority is the safety of Canadians. We are taking strong action to ensure that security agencies have the tools they need to protect Canadians against the evolving terror threat. That is also why we have tabled the Anti-terrorism Act, 2015, which I urge all Parliamentarians to support.”
