Srinagar:

Restrictions were imposed in some areas of Srinagar Tuesday, a day after a youth was killed in police firing in Baramulla district, police said.

Restrictions have been imposed in Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj, Safa Kadal and Maisuma areas of the city.

"The restrictions are preventive measures to maintain law and order...," a senior police officer told IANS here.

Contingents of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed at these locations and in other major towns of the Kashmir Valley.

Separatist leaders have called for a valley-wide protest shutdown Tuesday.

Reports from Palhalan town, 35 kms from here, indicate high tension in the area as additional security forces were moved in late Monday.

Farooq Ahmad Bhat, 24, was killed in police firing during clashes between a stone pelting mob and the security forces in Palhalan town of Baramulla district Monday.

Another youth, Riyaz Ahmad, who was critically injured in this firing incident, was operated upon in the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) here. Doctors said his condition is critical.
