New Delhi:

In what could act as a morale-booster for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the All India Imam Association (AIIA) has decided to support the Arvind Kejriwal-led party in the Delhi Assembly polls.

All India Imam Association president Maulana Muhammad Sajid Rashidi today said that they have decided to support the AAP for the happiness of Delhi.

"The AIIA has decided for Delhi and for the happiness of Delhi, we must support the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). We will ask the Muslims not to vote for BJP, instead to vote for AAP," said Rashidi.

"We earlier felt that the BJP has changed but by the recent statements made by Sakshi Maharaj, Yogi Adityanath, Sadhvi Prachi.... Now, we feel that the BJP is the same party who destroyed the Babri Masjid and is also planning to build the Ram Mandir again," he added.

The cleric also urged the minority community to vote for the AAP keeping in mind the religion, society and rights.

The elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held in a single phase on February 7. The counting of votes will take place on February 10.
