Roasting celebrities has always been a tricky business. When a celeb signs up to get roasted he/she must definitely pack their ego in a bag and throw it out of the window. To be honest it is scary walking on to a stage where a panel of the meanest roasters sit waiting with cue-cards in their hands loaded with the bitchiest jokes. But Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh dared to become the first cool kids of Bollywood to ever get roasted! Here are 5 things I loved about the roast…
# Karan Johar as the roast master of the show was the BEST. DECISION. EVER. Not only was he witty and sarcastic, he was at his snarky best, a quality many lack in the film industry.
# Deepika Padukone- Ranveer Singh relationship jokes were the best. Not only were they original but each was unique, especially the one about Deepika “taking one for the team” by dating Ranveer and “taking him off the streets”. That joke made me LOL! I guess more than the jokes itself it was the sporting way in which the Bajirao Mastani couple handled all the jokes
# Alia Bhatt getting ragged for not quite being the “genius of the year” was priceless! What was even more adorable was Alia trying to convince the roasters from the first row that her general knowledge is not that bad anymore! Poor Alia!
# Arjun Kapoor getting rammed for having failed in the 12th grade was rib-tickling! The funniest bit was when Arjun hurled profanities on being ragged for his academic failure the third time!
# Karan Johar’s “That’s my position, Ranveer” bit was winning. I don’t care about his sexual orientation, I just love how cool KJo is! He so doesn’t give a damn about speculations made about his sexual preferences. If only more of Bollywood could be as sassy!
Well, those were the top 5 things that I loved about AIB Knockout, but there were also 5 things which disappointed me. Here it goes…
# Abrupt editing in certain places was kind of a buzz-kill. It came in the way of the flow.
# Rajeev Masand’s roast session was chopped too much probably because he isn’t as big a name. I would have loved to see a little more of him roasting Karan Johar, Arjun and Ranveer!
# Rohan Joshi’s jokes were either too high-brow for me or they were just plain unfunny. According to me of all the panelists he was the most boring…
# Cutting out Ranveer Singh and Karan Johar’s smooch from the video was the biggest let-down! Looking at the content of the rest of the roast, that kiss should have been the least of editors’ worries.
# Having Raghu Ram on the panel of roasters was one decision that honestly baffled me. Apart from a few good jokes here and there the Roadies judge was not the best choice for a roaster as he was clearly reading out of a script. It was all too rehearsed and not in the least bit natural.
So here is what I thought of AIB Knockout. If you agree with what I said tell me in the comments section below. If you don’t, well, post your comments anyway…
