BCCI allows Indian players' wives to join them in Australia, keeps out girlfriends

December 25, 2014 08:08 PM

Following back-to back defeats in Australia, the Indian cricket board has allowed wives of Indian cricketers to join the team in Australia.

According to a report in Zee Media, it is learnt that the board has allowed the wives of cricketers to join the team. However, the ban on girlfriends has not been lifted which means Virat Kohli won't have Anushka Sharma by his side.

The BCCI had banned girlfriends of players from accompanying or joining them on overseas tours.

However, the board has placed restrictions on the duration of stay for wives of cricketers. The new rules came into effect after India's disappointing tour of England when the team lost three straight games after winning the Lord's Test.

Married Indian cricketers like captain MS Dhoni, R Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay, can expect their wives to join them before the Melbourne Test beginning on the 26th of this month.
