Birthday special: Looking at Govinda’s second innings in Bollywood!

December 22, 2014 09:00 AM

Born on December 21, 1963, Govinda has turned a year older and its actually unbelievable that the actor who won hearts with films like Aankhen, Raja Babu, Coolie No.1, Hero No.1 and many more will blow 51 candles on the cake today.Govinda who started his career with the film Ilzaam in 1986 is known for his bang on comic timing and unique dancing style. While he ruled Bollywood during ’90s, he took a break from acting around 2002 and entered politics in 2004. However, his stint in rajneeti wasn’t too successful and Govinda returned to acting. In 2006, he was seen in Bhagam Bhaag alongside Akshay Kumar but the film did little for his sagging career. The dancing superstar then teamed up with Salman Khan and made a smashing return to the big screen with Partner wherein he was paired opposite Katrina Kaif. After this comic venture, the actor was seen in Life Partner which again failed at the box office and Govinda vanished from the limelight.

This year, the versatile superstar made a comeback in Bollywood with YRF’s Kill Dil co-starring Ranveer Singh, Parineeti Chopra and Ali Zafar. While the film failed to get cash registers jingling, Govinda proved his mettle as an actor once again by playing a baddie in Kill Dil. His act was praised not only bycritics but even by the masses. We then saw Chi Chi in Saif Ali Khan starrer Happy Ending which released last month. This film too didn’t taste success at the box office but Govinda left an lasting impression with his funny performance and of course six pack abs!

Box office wise, Govinda’s second innings in Bollywood hasn’t been great but as an actor he has reinvented himself and how! Next year, Sunita Ahuja’s hubby dearest will be seen in Abhinay Chakra which is dance-based film. With his flick the Kill Dil baddie will also turn producer. But will he succeed donning the producer’s hat? Let’s hope he does!

For now, we are glad that his second innings in Bollywood as an actor has started on a good note and we wish he continues to entertain us for many more years with his antics. So here’s wishing the very entertaining, extremely fit and supremely talented Govinda a very happy birthday!
