Jaipur:
Peeved at the slow pace of case of the annulment of her marriage with a 55-year-old man against her wishes, a teenage girl allegedly tried to commit suicide following which Rajasthan High Court formed a committee to probe the matter.
According to the father of the girl, the girl was married off by her grandfather without evening bringing it to the notice of her parents. The man, Ramchandra, is a widower and father to four children.
He said it was a child marriage which took place about two-and-a-half year ago.
The girl later approached an NGO, Saarthi Trust, and filed a case of annulment of marriage in the family court.
She had filed the case in November 2013 and was disturbed at the slow pace of the trial. According to her mother, the case did not come up for hearing due to absence of the judge on the seventh consecutive time.
"We had a hearing on Tuesday in the family court but since the judge was on leave consecutively for seventh hearing straight, she felt a bit disappointed and consumed sleeping pills in the night," said her mother Parvati.
Before trying to kill herself, she wrote letter to the President, Chief Justice of India (CJI) and several others top officials through the NGO.
Taking note of the incident today, the High Court constituted a committee to look into the matter.
