SYNOPSIS:

The film ‘Happy Ending’ is a romantic-comedic venture which will take on a journey of a lazy writer, Yudi Jaitley (Saif Ali Khan). Initially Yudi was an author who had written only one book which brought all the fame, wealth and of course the girls; and this is what pretty much every man would desire. In turn this guy, later on starts leading a path towards sluggishness which he wasn’t aware about that it would turn his life into a disaster. He loses all his money and fame due to which he desperately starts looking for different means to make money. During his struggle, he then approaches a Bollywood star Armaan (Govinda) who asks him to write a story for his movie. While working on the movie script he meets another emerging writer Aanchal (Ileana) who helps him for his story. Both the writer’s who are utterly unromantic; start spending quality time with each other. Would Yudi get his fame and money back and will he be able to develop a connection with Aanchal? These questions form the rest of the story….

STORY, SCREENPLAY AND DIALOGUES:

The casting of the film was very apt for the film and they delivered complete justice to their roles and overall the story of the film. The writers Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru yet again left no error in the story except for a few small glitches here and there. The story is well adapted and Saif Ali Khan, who has already proved his skills in the rom-com category, has now stormed a comedy about rom-coms. The actor very well knows when and how to use his comical sense. Saif is also playing another character in the film named as Yogi, who is simply hilarious with his exceptional dialogues and his expressions. The screenplay goes haywire at some places in the second half; however the first half is flawless and absolutely hilarious. There is no doubt about the dialogues being extraordinary as they will not leave you alone without laughing.

PERFORMANCES:

Govinda is simply mind boggling and he proved it righteously that he can, not only play serious negative roles but he can yet carry the title of being called as the King of comedy. People grow old and start losing a bit of their abilities, but it’s the other way round for Govinda, as he is growing old but his talent seems to sharpening up even more. The viewers can’t hold their laughter every time Govinda utters a word or two. Saif is undoubtedly heroic when it’s about comedies, as his timing and his delivery is simply outstanding. However, he was too much on the screen all the time which left less scope for Govinda which was really not apt. Ileana certainly startled everyone with her performance in this film, as in her earlier films she was only as good as a damsel in distress. She looked glamorous throughout and could carry her character quite well making her performance praiseworthy. Kalki appeared in a new avatar this time and she was equally amazing with her shots. Ranvir Shorey shows up quite late in the film and does not leave any stone unturned with his excellent performance. He was extremely funny and witty in almost all of his scenes.

DIRECTION, CINEMATOGRAPHY AND EDITING:

The directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK have come up with a light-hearted film which is refreshing in a lot of ways from the usual masala and tedious romantic drama comedies. The duo has tried to script down the various ways and useless things that the writer has to consider to keep his boss happy. Cinematography by Chase Boman, Yaron Levy and Mahesh Limaye is very smartly done and also the editing is excellent.

ACTION, BACKGROUND SCORE AND MUSIC:

There is no scope for action in the film as there are no action sequences whatsoever. The music is directed and composed by Sachin-Jigar in the film and they really have done a superb job. The background score also keeps you ticking with the film. Songs like ‘Jaise Mera Tu’ and ‘G Phaad Ke’ are simply the best amongst the lot.

CHOREOGRAPHY, LOCATIONS AND PRODUCTION VALUE:

Remo D’Souza who is the choreographer, has certainly maintained his style and grooves. Although, there was not much of exceptional grooved required, but he just flowed and moved with the music and the lyrics of the songs. Locations selected in the move are ecstatic, beautiful and quite appropriate in accordance to the contemporary theme of the film. The entire film is shot in parts of San Francisco and Los Angeles. Therefore, the production valve has to be high!

OUR VERDICT:

Briefly, the movie is seriously funny as the end result serves nothing more than leaving you happy. And for all those who are pretty bored of all those rom-coms just revolving around the similar lines of comedy with a lot of sugar sprinkled over it, then this odd film will really serve you well for your money with a ‘Happy Ending’.
