SYNOPSIS:

The film ‘Kill Dil’ is a high comic quotient film laced with mystical romance and action sequences. The story is about Dev (Ranveer Singh) and Tutu (Ali Zafar), who are abandoned orphans. Bhaiyaji (Govinda) finds them, nurtures them and trains them to be killers. Things and events start to change around when a free spirited girl named Disha (Parineeti Chopra) enters the life of Dev. As the story moves on, Dev gets closer to Disha and starts falling in love with her. The twist in the story emerges when Bhaiyaji does not like and accept their relationship. What happens next forms the rest of the story …

STORY, SCREENPLAY AND DIALOGUES:

The film is completely fashion driven and all the characters love wearing jackets and shades even when they are hunting and killing people with their guns. The story’s sole purpose is not only about killing, and the director has very well publicized liberty in the making of the film and has used it quite effectively. The story is really well revised and showcased with drama that it will keep you glued to your seats without spoiling your mood. Screenplay by Nitesh Tiwari, Shreyas Jain and Nikhil Mehrotra is simply mind boggling as that is what keeps you wondering about the next scene despite your mind being able to predict it. The dialogues are also another essential aspect that keeps you involved in the movie without losing interest.

PERFORMANCES:

Govinda’s performance is the first thing that should be considered as he was serious, humorous and simply outstanding. It becomes difficult for all those to think about that 90’s Govinda and then to see him in this latest antagonist avatar which is totally miles away! He has very well shown his excellence through his grooves as well as stunning one-liners. Being the center of everything, Ranveer Singh was very well able to hold the pressure on his shoulders despite of toning himself down and for the film’s soft character. He certainly proved that he can also be a soft hearted, innocent and an endearing personality if that is what the characterization is all about. Parineeti Chopra although at some sequences was too flashy and fashion oriented but yet she was very well able to hold herself there and her performance really left everyone wondering whether if was the same old bubbly girl next door. Ali Zafar seems to have just played himself and had not to work much to alter his character, showing that perfect attitude which was required. We may have seen him playing comic roles before, which really appeared forced, however here he had to just be himself and has very well

DIRECTION, CINEMATOGRAPHY AND EDITING:

The credit has to go to Shaad Ali, who directed the film with elegance and grace. Regardless of the story being a little predictable, he has managed to keep the audiences glued to their seats. Somehow it did appear in the end that the director was in a hurry to end the film as the climax very bizarre. Cinematography by Avik Mukhopadhayay was a job well done. The editing by Ritesh Soni was very crisp and precisely to the point without wasting any time.

ACTION, BACKGROUND SCORE AND MUSIC:

The action sequences were very well shot, however there were a few action sequences which leave you thinking what were they really thinking and why! The gun shots at some points were really well executed but some sequences appeared vague and impractical. The background music and all the songs in the film are good and blend perfectly with the particular sequences. The music directors Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have seriously done a great job. The theme song does actually give a vibe of criminality.

CHOREOGRAPHY, LOCATIONS AND PRODUCTION VALUE:

The film’s choreography was undertaken by Ganesh Acharya and has fairly maintained his excellence. The locations of Delhi that are selected are apt for the film and various sequences as they merge well with the gangster world and at the same time also the glamour world. The production value is certainly high.

OUR VERDICT: ‘Kill Dil’ is a serious amalgamation of humor, action, romance and drama. However, as we mentioned above that the director seemed in a hurry to end the film, left a glitch in the overall performance of the film. Even though the storyline was quite normal and usual, the various key technical aspects of its make and its presentation left the movie with appraise.
