Sachin: Ajit has done so many things for me and only after I retired I heard from him so many things. Early on he would travel with me and we have lived this dream together. Mentally, Ajit was batting with me and whatever I described, it's not enough. He kept my first bat I played with and also the series helmets.

Late in the night, I called Ajay Jadeja and Robin Singh to be outside Sachin's room. He almost collapsed and that was one of the most difficult moments

Anjali: He was there in New Zealand and was having a good run. One fine day, he calls me and said let's get engaged. And that's how it started.

Anjali: We used to write letters and that was the best part of our lives.

Anjali: The first time Sachin wanted me to come to his house, he was scared as what people will think. And Sachin asked me to come as a young journalist and he cut a chocolate into small pieces.

Ajit: Before taking him to Ramakant sir I watched him play and I was convinced of his talent. And that's the reason I took him.

Anjali: And after that we spoke and Sachin remembered that I was wearing an 'Orange T-shirt'

Anjali Tendulkar: I didn't know he was 17... I didn't even know he was 'Sachin'... My friend said that he was the wonder boy.
I didn't like cricket and all that I found that he was so cuteeee.
I just ran after him, Ajit and Nitin and he was so embarrassed. Sachin just went inside the car. I asked my friend to find Sachin's number and then I called him. It's destiny.

Ganguly: Unfortunately we didn't qualify despite having the strongest side. Not qualifying for the World Cup was toughest for me but that's the way it goes.

Dravid: 2007 was a difficult time not qualifying for the World Cup. But when you move on you realise that it's part and parcel of life.

Sachin on 2007 WC: I have written that and the atmosphere could have been better. The atmosphere had to be the best but the environment was very negative. And that's the reason I said we could manage without coach Greg Chappell

On team atmosphere: It does (matter). When you are going out, you want to go there with a relaxed mind. There are lot of expectations and only with a relaxed mind you can enjoy the game. 2006 was the toughest.

Sourav: Sachin always liked to open the batting. He opened and he got runs in the World Cup.

Sachin: Jam and Laxman were incredible in Kolkata and both just kept smashing. At the end of Day 4, we started thinking differently.

Dravid: Sachin got Moin Khan out and we walked off as a "Team" and for me that was a brilliant day as a captain! We won a Test match in Pakistan and it gives us immense satisfaction to do well for your country

Sachin Tendulkar: I was practicing my drills at night in Sydney. I stayed awake thinking of how to play my innings. And Dada was silently watching me.

Laxman: I was in awe of Sachin. I first met him in Nottingham at 16 and it was our first meeting. Even then he was very humble and I am very fortunate. He was my first captain and he welcomed me so warmly. It's special.

Sourav Ganguly: What struck me was how much he wanted to play. Even after nets he was always eager to bat and it was hard to get him out of the nets. He and Vinod Kambli would still practice with the tennis balls in the corridor. But at 16 he used one of the heaviest cricket bats ever. He was my room-mate in the MRF pace academy. And he used to walk at nights. One night I saw him just walk out. He came back and slept. And I had to be awake for the rest of the nights.
