Fort St. John, British Columbia – Western Economic Diversification Canada

Today, Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George–Peace River, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced over $249,000 in federal funding to the North Peace Airport Society, under the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF), in support of water infrastructure upgrades to the North Peace Regional Airport.

Upgrades to the airport’s water infrastructure include the replacement of valves, hydrants, and portions of the water line. These upgrades will allow the North Peace Regional Airport to conserve resources by eliminating system water loss, and ensure the reliability of fire response in the area.

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Government of Canada announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. The Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. CIIF supported projects that aimed to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, and further community and cultural facilities.

Quick Facts

  • The North Peace Regional Airport serves as a vital link for the region’s oil and gas industries.
  • The airport provides daily flights to Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary.
  • The North Peace Airport Society has owned the airport since 1997.
