SYNOPSIS:

The movie revolves around the three most important characters of the film. Hyderabadi Gulrez ‘Gullu’(Parineeti Chopra), a shoe-sales disheartened lady who is really unhappy with those dowry-seeking men presented by her father who is played by Anupam Kher. After being rejected many a times Gulrez goes to the city of Lucknow with a mission to trick a rich man and get married to him. The notion behind her mission was to get married and file a dowry demand case against the boy and his family, and in settlement win some major chunk of money to fulfill her dreams of going to America and become a fashion designer. While on her mission along with her father, Gullu comes across Tariq who is running the famous Hyderi Kabab restaurant, and falls in love at first sight with Gullu, while exploring the city and its delicacies Gullu also starts liking Tariq. What’s next? Will Gullu be able to fulfill her mission? Will she file case against Tariq? What happens of Gullu and Tariq’s love? This is the rest of the story.

STORY, SCREENPLAY AND DIALOGUES:

Story written by Habib Faisal is not very new and has been seen in some previous movies, but he has tried well to spice up the movie keeping in mind the lovely dishes, romance and drama. However, the love and romance between Gulrez and Tariq is half-baked. There could’ve been much more intensity in their love story which would’ve really made the movie a lot more fascinating. It’s a light romantic saga, but at times because of the fragile screenplay, it does seem a little boring. The writer tries to pass a message in the film about dowry, but it doesn’t come up very strongly. The second half could have been more interesting with some more intensity in love, drama, separation, emotions etc. Dialogues are very interesting and Habib has neatly maintained the flavor of typical hyderabadi and lucknowi accent with nice and lovely quotes. There is a feeling of rawness attached to the typicality of Hyderabadi and Lucknowi dialogues in the movie.

PERFORMANCES:

Aditya Roy Kapur in his Lucknowi character has done a good job and fits into his character well. He very easily blends himself in the Lucknowi character, style, appearance, his dialect and also through his attire. He very well justified his character. Parineeti has enacted very sweet and innocent in respect to her character in the film. She has performed quite elegantly. She has also made a difficult task appear easy by dissolving very well in her character of a Hyerabadi girl. She also has very well carry herself in the desired Hyderabadi attire, style along with the Hyderabadi accent. Anupam Kher has done an excellent job and has played a very good role being a support. He is one of the strongest pillars of the movie and has pulled and showcased his character quite well. He gets humor in the sequences and the audience loves it. Karan Wahi is introduced in the movie but has a limited scope and has done a cameo in the movie, but he is just okay. Rest of the cast is fine.

DIRECTION, CINEMATOGRAPHY AND EDITING:

The characters written and adapted for the film are well portrayed by the director Habib Fasial. The whole movie is about the lifestyle and love affairs of the two beautiful cities coming together; Hyderabad and Lucknow. The director has added a lot of Indian masala mixing various food recipes, the famous dishes of Hyderabad and Lucknow with a little ‘tadka’ of love. It is said that to win a man’s heart, the best way is through his stomach; however the director has narrated this the other way round in the movie, where Tariq is a wonderful chef who wins Gulrez’s heart through his magical recipes and loyalty. But the director fails due to weak script and incomplete narration, which lacks love, drama, emotions etc and fails to be a complete entertainer. Cinematography by Himman Dhamija is good and he has explored the city of Hyderabad and lucknow very well. Editing by Meghna Manchanda Sen could have been a little more sharp and crisp.

ACTION, BACKGROUND SCORE AND MUSIC:

As it’s a light hearted romantic film, there is no scope for action in the movie. Sajid –wajid comes up with a decent album with songs like ‘Daawat-e-Ishq’, ‘Shayarana’ and ‘Meri Mannat Tu’ being the best among the lot and goes well with the flow of the movie.

CHOREOGRAPHY, LOCATIONS AND PRODUCTION VALUE:

Choreography by Aadil Shaikh is fine. Locations of Hyderabad and Lucknow are pretty nice and they give us the raw look and feel of those beautiful cities. Production values are of decent standard.

OUR VERDICT:

Overall the movie is a nice light hearted romantic film that gives in depth feel of its food and the love and also takes you to a nice journey with the mixture of food and love in one. If you are food-o-holic and a movie buff then you would certainly love the movie and will not miss it for sure.
