Sophie, who recently bid adieu to JDJ 7 talks about her elimination and more in a candid chat
Sophie Choudry was confident about being in the finals of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7. But her elimination has come as a huge shock for her as well as her fans. The singer cum dancer is completely heartbroken, which is quite evident from her recent interview with BollywoodLife. Excerpts from conversation.
Not so long ago, we had a chat and you seemed very confident about being in the grand finale of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7. But then there came your elimination. Shocked or heartbroken?
Both. I really felt that if not winning, I definitely deserved to be in the final. It’s been a week since my elimination, and I really feel sad whenever someone talks to me about Jhalak. But it’s a game show, I have shed enough tears and now I just want to move on.
During the interview, you also said some contestants would be really happy if you quit the show coz you were planning to do that because of your injury. Now that you are out of JDJ 7, do you think those contestants would be celebrating?
It’s a competition. And every time someone used to leave, I would feel a bit sad but at the same time, I also used to feel a bit relieved. I was one major threat for all the remaining contestants. I am sure they must be relieved now that I am out. But having said that, I knew from the very beginning that I had a very slim chance of winning.
So what do you think went wrong?
Winning is always difficult because this is a show mainly for TV artists. Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa is not only about your talent, but also about your popularity. And I think the audiences, who see TV artists on daily basis connect with some of their characters and love them. But I can’t blame anyone for that.
There are five contestants remaining in the show. Who do you think will grab the trophy this time?
The next one to be eliminated will be Akshat (Singh). And then they will have four TV artists in the finale. If the show is purely about dance then it will be Shakti (Mohan) who will win it. But past records have shown that professional dancers never win. I think if it’s based on popularity, then Ashish (Sharma) should win. Because he is by far the most popular off all the contestants. But I don’t think Ashish will win either. Mouni (Roy) and her choreographer Punit (Pathak) have been the favourite since beginning, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they win. But I really like Ashish and I will vote for him.
Can you tell us one best and low moment that you had during your stint in JDJ7?
The lowest would definitely be my elimination. Also the fall that happened in my act when one of the background dancers forgot to lift me. Because that act was outstanding I am really sad that it happened, because I not only get injured, it affected the performance as well which was otherwise flawless. The high point would definitely be performing on Kaante Nahi Kat te that too in front of Salman Khan. And him cheering for me, me singing with Salman, all of that was good. Kareena had also come on the show and she saying ‘Sophie is my friend and I want her to win’, that was a huge high point.
So what’s next for Sophie Choudry?
Definitely lots of Live performances. I am definitely looking forward to rock the stage this season. I have got a very good offer, and hopefully you will see me soon on the big screen.
