SYNOPSIS:

The story revolves around a conman named Raja (Emraan Hashmi) who is not contended with being a small-time scamster and wants to earn big and really fast. His partner in crime is Raghav (Deepak Tijori) with the help of whom Raja manages to play a huge con and becomes the owner of 80 lakh rupees. However, what he did not know is the fact that the money belonged to Varda Yadav (Kay Kay Menon), a bigtime gangster from Cape Town. Raghav gets killed and Raja is stuck in a web of heinous crimes. To take revenge from Varda, Raja turns to Yogi (Paresh Rawal) in Dharamshala to mentor him. Will Raja be able to take revenge of his partner's death or will himself be stuck in the con? This forms the rest of the story...

STORY, SCREENPLAY AND DIALOGUES:

A phenomena tried and tested in the industry before is what 'Raja Natwarlal' is. Even though the film has all the elements of being a masala-entertainer, from dance and dialogues to humor and romance, but in a struggle to make it more curious, the movie looses its grip. There are far too many twists in the movie, which are confusing and are also left unexplained till the end. A few turns are also predictable. The second half merely has characters entering in and out of the screen, half of which are of no apparent significance. The actors travel so frequently from Cape Town to India, that it seems like the two countries are just a stone throw away. The screenplay of the movie is loose and stretched. Dialogues are just about ok. There are some edgy moments in the film but that does not manage to sustain the thrill for 141 minutes or so.

PERFORMANCES:

This is the only part where the movie scored high. Emraan is believable as a conman and acts well. Paresh Rawal and Kay Kay Menon are extremely convincing and vulnerable in their parts. Humaima, on the other hand, is not at all a heroine material. The actress neither looks good on screens nor acts well. She overdoes her part in every scene. Also a super talented actor like Zeeshan Khan has been totally wasted in the movie by giving a unnoticeable role.

DIRECTION, CINEMATOGRAPHY AND EDITING:

Director Kunal Deshmukh has not really shown his worth in his previous venture'Jannat' and 'Raja Natwarlal' is no exception. The movie stands on some weak direction and even weaker execution. Kunal has also inserted some similar Jannat elements in this movie as well. We recommend him to rather show his creativity.

ACTION, BACKGROUND SCORE AND MUSIC:

Action is fine, but unlike other Emraan movies, the songs in the film are not thatgreat. Except of 'Tere Hoke Rahenge' none of the songs stay with you.

CHOREOGRAPHY, LOCATIONS AND PRODUCTION VALUE:

Choreography is not worth a mention. The locations are good and the production value is mediocre.

OUR VERDICT:

On a whole, 'Raja Natwarlal' is just a decent affair and apart from a few performances, nothing makes it a watchable flick. The movie can be given a miss.
