Siddhant Karnick: I wish people had better things to do in life

The recent Airtel ad which shows the actor playing his wife’s subordinate in office received a lot of flak on social networking sites

The new Airtel ad talks about the unique experience of connecting with 3G. It starts with Siddhant Karnick’s boss giving him some work and an impossible deadline. He sits back late in office to finish work. His wife calls him and requests him to come home early. It so happens that his boss is actually his wife as well. She shows him the special dinner she cooked for him through video chat in order to make return to home quickly.

While we thought the ad is rather cute, it seems a lot of people on social networking sites have panned it. Siddhant, who recently shot for this ad in Malaysia, is shocked to see some of the reactions. The ad is directed by Vinil Mathew, who also directedHasee Toh Phasee this year. Talking about this controversy Karnick says, “Even in my wildest dreams, I never thought that this cute presentation of a couple’s relationship in a commercial will create such a bizarre controversy. This is my third commercial with Vinil and we share a great rapport with each other. He is a perfectionist and knows exactly how to extract the true emotions in an ad film. I wish people had better things to do in life. The ad defines how caring you can be with your husband by cooking for him; in spite of telling him to work till late.” Siddhant also feels that the reaction from certain groups of people is really not logical. “I have read several comments. The tweet about double income group with no kids and why the couple could not afford to have a maid is senseless. How can one explain everything in a commercial that barely lasts a minute? The feedback I received from my female friends claim that they just loved it. A few think it is a very romantic way of showing your love for your husband.”
