Bollywood may be known for its larger than life heroes, but wouldn’t their power be junked, if there were no villains to fume them. Well, Bollywood has seen some famous villains in the likes ofGabbar, Mogambo, Shakaal,etc. These were characters which were played by actors, who were famously known for their negative roles.
But, while these villains were doing their jobs perfectly, our B-Town heroes too came up to try their hands in being villains onscreen. Well, many of these too managed to make a mark.
Let’s have a look at the famous hero-villains of Bollywood.
1) Amitabh Bachchan (‘Don’):
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan made his mark in Bollywood as a hero, but in the year 1978, he shocked his fans with fabulous villainous act in the film ‘Don’. In the movie, he played a double role, one of a good guy and another of a bad guy. He got more praises for portraying the baddie in the film.
2) Sanjay Dutt (‘Khalnayak’ & ‘Vastav’):
Sanjay Dutt shredded down his good boy image and showed a totally different Sanjay onscreen in the film ‘Khalnayak’. His act was amazing as the villain of the film and he even got nominated in the category of Filmfare Best Actor. After this, the talented actor once again showed us his rowdy avatar in the film ‘Vastav’, where he played the role of a gangster and for which he finally won the Filmfare Best Actor Award.
3) Shah Rukh Khan (‘Darr’, ‘Baazigar’, ‘Anjaam’, ‘Duplicate’, ‘Don’, ‘Don 2’):
Shah Rukh Khan has the maximum number of films, in which he played a negative role. ‘Darr’, ‘Baazigar’, ‘Anjaam’, ‘Duplicate’, ‘Don’ and ‘Don 2’, are the films, the superstar was seen as the villain. For ‘Baazigar’ SRK even won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He was also honoured with the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role for the film ‘Anjam’. It was these negative roles that proved Shah Rukh’s actual worth in the industry.
4) Aamir Khan (‘Fanaa’, ‘Dhoom 3’):
The cute chocolate boy Aamir Khan as an antagonist. Well, no one had even imagined it, until films like ‘Fanaa’ and ‘Dhoom 3’ hit the box-office.Aamir Khan was the male lead in both the films, but had grey shades in his character. Audience loved this Aamir Khan with a negative touch in his character and both the films were successful at the box-office.
5) Ajay Devgn (‘Deewangee’, ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai’):
Ajay Devgn always played the hero, who fought with bad guys onscreen. But, in the year 2002, everything changed when he showcased his negative side in the film ‘Deewangee’. He played the character of a person, who suffers from split personality and his negative act surely made people scared. He even got the Filmfare Best Villain Award for the film. He once again played a character with grey shades in the film ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai’.
6) Hrithik Roshan (‘Dhoom 2’):
Hrithik may be stated as the perfect hero material of Bollywood, but he too did not back out of being a villain on screen. In ‘Dhoom 2’ the antagonist was hot and happening in the face of HrithikRoshan. His style of carrying the negative role was just superb. We are sure that Hrithik was the most stylish and good looking antagonist till date in Bollywood.
7) John Abraham (‘Dhoom’):
The first Dhoominstalment is one of the best examples of hero-villain in Bollywood and it all started with John Abraham. John played the character of a classy robber in the film and the trend of sexy antagonist started in Bollywood.
8) Emraan Hashmi (‘Murder’, ‘Gangster’):
And last, but not the least, we have the serial kisser EmraanHashmi on the list. Emraan became quite famous for his kissing scenes and the bold act in the film ‘Murder’, but not many know that he played a negative character in the film and was also the lead in the film. Same way in the film ‘Gangster’ Emraan was the hero of the film, but had a negative shade to it.
