SYNOPSIS:
Devi Singh (Salman) is an engineer by profession but he doesn't stick with a single job because he loves fun and wants to do things only if it excites him. He likes challenges in his life. Dr. Shaina (Jacqueline) loves him but is extremely fed up of his habit of changing jobs and not concentrating on his career. Following the tension in their relationship, Shaina and Devi once get into an argument and break up.
Shaina now decides to marry Himanshu (Randeep Hooda), a cop, who is chasing an international thief, Devil. However, no one is aware of the fact that Devi is the real Devil, because he keeps his face covered with a mask.
So what's the next?? Does Himanshu arrest Devil? Does Shaina marry Himanshu?? And why did Devi become Devil? The answers to these questions form the rest of the story…

STORY, SCREENPLAY AND DIALOGUES:
Story penned down by Sajid Nadiadwala is just ok as he does not opt for a novel concept. The funda is tried and tested in Bollywood before, with several films that see the protagonist playing an international thief. The only difference being, the writer has very skilfully added an emotional approach behind Devi’s theft, which somehow goes well with Salman’s real life image.
Also, it seems like when Chetan Bhagat, Rajat Arora and Sajid Nadiadwala were writing the screenplay, the only thing they had in mind was the fact that it was a Salman Khan movie. Thus it did not matter of how much ever confusing or indigestible the screenplay was.
The scenes of establishing each character, especially the main actors, are very lengthy and exasperating. The movie concentrates only on Salman, leaving aside or developing other important characters including Salman’s mother or father or even the villain.
Dialogues are good at only a few places and do not have a lasting impact on the viewers.

PERFORMANCES:
It goes without saying that, ‘Kick’ is an out-an-out Salman Khan Film. He carries the movie in his shoulders with his top-notch performance. The actor has the capability of being lovable in whatever he does on screen, in spite of a number of loopholes in the screenplay. The actor looks young and damn good as usual.
Randeep Hooda has done a wonderful job as a cop. His acting is impactful and engaging. Jacqueline looks beautiful, but nothing much can be spoken of her performance, as she has not been given much scope to showcase her prowess. Mithun fails to impress in his miniscule role. Archana Puran Singh is hardly there, but she makes you laugh even in her one scene role and it is thus said that she is one of the best character artists we have in the industry today. Same goes for Saurabh Shukla.
There is no doubt about the fact that Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a great actor and in ‘Kick’ too, his performance is first rate.

DIRECTION, CINEMATOGRAPHY AND EDITING:
‘Kick’ marks the directorial debut of well-known producer Sajid Nadiadwala. He is known to be very successful when it comes to producing films, but unfortunately, same can't be said about his direction. It is the screenplay of the film that has made him handicapped. He has also wasted talented actors like Mithun, Archana and Saurabh Shukla. Even though the first half is fine, the second half is too elongated. Sajid could have easily asked his editor to crisp the movie at least by 20-25 mins. Climax of the film is stretched. Editing by Rameshwar Bhagat could have been so much better and crisp.
Cinematography by Ayananka Bose is first rate.

ACTION, BACKGROUND SCORE AND MUSIC:
Action sequences are excellent and of pure international standards. However, do not try and compare them with the Dhoom series, which had an altogether different approach. Songs are wonderful. Nargis Fakhri looks sizzling in the ‘Devil’ song.
|
CHOREOGRAPHY, LOCATIONS AND PRODUCTION VALUE:
Choreography by Ahmed Khan is excellent and top-notch. All the songs, especially ‘Jumme Ki Raat’ have been wonderfully choreographed. Locations are beautiful and as seen in the promos as well, the production value is extremely high.

OUR VERDICT:
Overall, in spite of a faulty screenplay and soggy editing, ‘Kick’ can be watched for its songs, a few performances and ofcourse, Salman Khan. Also, making its mark in the theatres during Eid, ‘Kick’ is sure to do a 100 crore business.
