The Indian cricket team created history at Lords 31 years ago and now their journey will be shown on the silver screen
National Film Award winning director Sanjay Puran Singh, who directed Lahore is all set to turn Indian cricket team’s 1983 World Cup win into a film. Yes you heard it right! After 31 years of that emphatic win at Lords, the event is going to be transformed into a film. Talking to a leading daily Induri adds, “We are in touch with the members of the 1983 team and they will lend us full support. The project will hit the floors in the first quarter of 2015.”
Celebrity Cricket League’s (CCL) founder Vishnu Vardhan Induri will be producing the film. Talking to a leading daily Induri said, “It’s bizarre that even three decades after that historic victory, we haven’t produced a single film that captures the achievement. In many ways, that win was instrumental in turning cricket into a religion in India. I believe it’s a story that needs to be told.”
Even the then Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev us excited about this development. Speaking to a leading daily Kapil said, “Like most of my teammates, I am glad that a film is being made on our journey during the 1983 World Cup. It’s heartening to see the trend of movies being made on sports, which I am sure will inspire the youth.”
We have seen sports films like Lagaan, Iqbaal, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag do well at the box office, but there are also many more which didn’t work. Only time will tell as to whether Sanjay Puran Singh’s version of the 1983 World Cup win will create an impact on the Indian audiences or not.
