The many faces of Amitabh Bachchan

Big B has been experimental when it comes to his on screen avatars. Take a look at Sr Bachchan’s different characters on the silver screen

Amitabh Bachchan is an actor who doesn’t shy away from experimenting with his looks. Be it films or commercials, the actor has time and again proved his versatility. From Auro in Paa to his take on Gabbar Singh in Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, Big B has given us several different looks in the recent past. Here are some of our favourite:

Film: Paa

Look inspired by: Those suffering from a rare genetic condition known as progeria

Character name: Auro

Our take: This was the first time the versatile actor majorly experimented with his looks. The audience as well as the media was surprised with Sr Bachchan’s new avatar. We all remember his bald look in Paa, how adorable Mr Bachchan looked. His white and green school uniform with a matching school tie along with red spectacles made the actor look every bit of a delectable child. We must admit this versatile actor invests all his energy into the roles he portrays on the 70mm screen.

Film: Sarkar and Sarkar Raj

Look inspired by: Balasaheb Thackeray

Character name: Subhash Nagre (Sarkar)

Our take: Amitabh Bachchan in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar and Sarkar Raj was powerful yet subtle. The senior actor was wearing a black kurta with a tilak on his forehead. Complementing his clothes was his expression, calm yet menacing. We wonder how the super star manages to carry each look of his so much conviction and simplicity. For us, this look was an absolute thumbs up.

Commercial: Kid’s health drink

Look inspired by: Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter)

Character name: Taakat Ka Bhoot

Our take: Sr Bachchan does not limit his experiments only to films. In a recent ad, the Bhoothnath Returns actor played a ghost. The actor in the ad has draped a robe around him, with long hair and large spectacles. Big B was funny, enthusiastic and endearing in this ad.

Film: Aag (Remake of Sholay)

Look inspired by: Gabbar Singh from Sholay

Character name: Babban

Our take: When Bachchan played Gabbar in the remake of Sholay, his character wasn’t quite appreciated by the masses. However, his look in the film was constantly scrutinised and pitched against the original Gabbar, Amjad Khan. Though both Khan as well as Bachchan were wearing Khaki’s, Amitabh went a step ahead with smoky eyes, white beard, a scar on the face and a bandana to cover the head. Scary, indeed! Though the actor tried his best to justify the character he was a little less convincing than our original Gabbar Singh from Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay.

Film: Shamitabh

Look inspired by: Unknown

Character name: Not mentioned

Our take: His most recent look in R Balki’s next film with Dhanush and Akshara Haasan has garnered much attention from the media. In a all white attire, Mr Bachchan is wearing a white shirt, with white pants and a two pocketed jacket. We recently spotted the actor carrying long white hair with a scruffy beard. The Cheeni Kum filmmaker has experimented with Amitabh’s look even in the past with Paa, however this time he has taken the entire look to a new level thus making us even more curious to know about the actor’s role in the film. As of now the look works for us!
