Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7 Episode 1 review: Energetic, creative and never seen before performances

June 08, 2014 12:06 PM

We guess fans have already begun voting for their favourite contestants on the dance reality show considering the first episode was just aired

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7 has begun and the competition is tough indeed. We watched the first episode and were amazed by the level of creativity and freshness the show brought. The theme of the first week was – Never Seen Before. While there were a lot of things we liked on the show, the makers could have done away with a few things. Read on to know our verdict on the first episode…

THE GOOD

Red carpet entry

All the three judges – Remo D’Souza, Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Karan Johar dancedon the red carpet followed by the choreographers, who put up a wonderful show. It was a treat to see everyone put forward their best.

Remo’s performance

The choreographers paved the way for Remo’s solo act. His new casual look complemented his dancing style and personality. Need we say more!

The Comedy Nights With Kapil infusion

Palak’s introduction started at CNWK. She announced her entry into Jhalak and surprised everyone including Bittu Sharma. When she realised that the Sharmas will never vote for her ‘coz they never have enough balance on the phones, she burst into tears. With that Bittu threw her right outside the house.

Aloo VS Bhalu

Varun Dhawan announced a dance off between Palak and Alia Bhatt. While we knew Alia would win hands down, it was fun to watch them fight over Humpty Sharma aka Varun.

Ashish Sharma’s dance and technology

The Rangrasiya actor and his choreographer Shampa showcased a novel concept of dance and technology. The act seemed right out of a video game. Very unique and the judges agreed!

Sophie Choudhry and Puja Banerjee’s props

Both the divas performed on a huge and unique prop. Sophie danced with her choreographer in a revolving palace. Puja did an aerial act on a floating bed. Totally out of the world and definitely something we’ve never seen before.

Sukhwinder’s live singing

The popular singer danced on his own song, Chal Chaiya Chaiya Chaiya from Dil Se. While his performance was disappointing, it was his live singing that took the cake. In addition to that, Sukhwinder even played the drums during his performance.

Remo’s dance with Siddharth Shukla

It started off with Drashti and Siddharth dancing together. Later they requested Remo to join the Balika Vadhu actor and teach him a few steps. Once Remo was on stage, we barely noticed Sid who was struggling to match steps with the ace choreographer-director.

THE BAD

New hosts – Ranvir Shorey and Drashti Dhami

The duo lacked chemistry and comic timing. While Ranvir tried to save the day with his one liners, it just didn’t connect with us. Wethinks Drashti was in the show to just add to the glamour quotient. Karan Johar, who mostly interacted with the hosts, also seemed lost between them.

Madhuri Dixit’s style

So much was said about Mads’ new style and look – what we saw in the first episode was rather disappointing. She almost would have slipped and fallen on her face if Remo and KJo had not held on to her. Madhuri seemed uncomfortable in the outfit, which didn’t match her body type at all.

Ranvir’s rap

JDJ started with Ranvir’s rap on  Remo D’Souza. The lyrics were juvenile and rather uninspiring. It had no vow element.

Rangrasiya infusion

Sanaya Irani was on the show as Paro to extend her support to Ashish aka Rudra. The cocktail of the reality show and Colors’ daily soap was tad too much.

Palak’s scores

While we believe Palak’s performance was energetic and she tried to showcase a new dance form, the act was not out of the world. It definitely did not deserve a score of nine from all the three judges.

Mouni Roy’s tears

Just because she is a daily soap actor, doesn’t mean that she had to bring the melodrama on the JDJ stage as well! After her lake performance got over, Mouni suddenly broke into tears. Why? Apparently ‘coz she was overwhelmed with everything that was happening around her. Haha!

Sudesh Lahiri’s comic act

Considering Ranvir and Drashti lack a little in the comedy section, the makers roped in Sudesh Lahiri to fill in the gaps. But it was a pain to sit through his forced comic act!

All in all, wethinks the first episode matched our expectations. Now we are waiting to see what Episode two has in store for us.
