Calgary, June 30: Seven Canadian Red Cross sites have now been opened around the city to help those affected by the recent flooding.

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, the centres are distributing relief materials like water and basic personal supplies for those whose homes and possessions were damaged and destroyed.

Cleaning kits are also available for volunteers helping with the rebuilding efforts.

More than 900 local volunteers joined up to 300 Red Cross volunteers Saturday, distributing aid at the centres and in flood ravaged areas, said Canadian Red Cross Secretary-General and CEO Conrad Sauve.

“We brought in some expertise as well from the American Red Cross that did massive distributions following Hurricane Sandy,” he said.

“We want to leverage the best expertise we can then the rest is the community.”

So far $13.5 million has been donated to the Red Cross to aid in flood relief efforts, a number that rises daily, said Sauve.
