April 05, 2014 02:38 PM

Qualification: Dropped studies to pursue theatre at 16, the Tulsi of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi then pursued education through correspondence

Previous work: Smriti began her career in Mumbai as burger flipper in McDonalds. Following this, she did ad films and Whisper was her first ad. After this, she then anchored a show called Filmi Batein. Smriti Irani’s first show was titled AatishHum Hain Kal Aaj Kal Aur KalKavita – all on Star Plus. In 2000, she bagged Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Some of the other shows she did include Kya Hadsaa Kya HaqeeqatKuch… Diiil Se and Ramayan. In 2006 she turned producer with Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa AasmaanVirrudhMere ApneWaaris, and Maniben.com She was last seen on Savdhaan India and Ek Thhi Naayka.

Political party associated with: BJP since 2003

Posts in BJP: Vice President of the Maharashtra Youth Wing in 2004

National Secretary of the party in 2010

All India President of the BJP Mahila Morcha

Member of Parliament from Gujarat to the Rajya Sabha in 2011

Controversy: Smriti married her childhood friend Zubin Irani, who was already married with a kid.

The actor had a fallout with her mentor Ekta Kapoor. Although they both refute it, we believe there is no smoke without a fire. In an interview Ekta said that she had given Smriti a break after her miscarriage and it was not a fallout. Rumours also suggested that the two had gone their separate ways when Smriti decided to produce her own shows.

-Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam called Smriti a ‘thumkewali’ (dancer). He said that she is a just an actor who dances on TV, who doesn’t understand the psyche of politics. BJP files a case of defamation on behalf of Smriti.

Style: In spite of being a model in her for Femina Miss India, we’ve seen the actor only in sarees and salwar suits. In all her daily soaps, she played the perfect bahus and wife hence the actor has predominantly worn heavy sarees as well as the simple cotton ones. Now that she has given up her glamourous telly career for politics, the MP is now mostly seen donning simple sarees with minimum border or design. If you ask us, she’s never really been an icon of style and we don’t think she will ever be.
