The ace choreographer and director turns 41 today
Born on April 3, 1973, Prabhu Dheva is an actor, filmmaker and dance choreographer. In a career spanning over twenty five years, he has performed and designed a wide range of dancing styles. He has garnered two National Film Awards for Best Choreography and is referred to as India’s Michael Jackson in the media circuit.
Prabhu made for an unusual but endearing actor in films such as Kaadhalan, Raasaiya and Vaanathai Pola. In 2005, he plunged into direction with the Telugu film, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, which went on to become a huge success. Since then, he’s notched up hits in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil languages such asShankardada Zindabad, Pokkiri, Shankardada Zindabad, Wanted, Rowdy Rathoreand R…Rajkumar.
On the personal front, Dheva married Ramlath who changed her name to Latha. They had three children – their eldest son died of cancer in 2008. In 2010, his wife filed a petition at the family court, seeking directions against Dheva from live-in relationship with the actor Nayantara and requesting a reunion with him. Furthermore, Ramlath threatened to go on a hunger strike if Prabhu married Nayantara, while several women’s organizations conducted protests against Nayantara for bringing disrepute to Tamil culture, burning an effigy of her. In 2012, Nayantara confirmed that she had ended her relationship with Prabhu.
