The Life of Learning Awards (The LOLAs) celebrate amazing educators, adult learners and programs in Calgary. This year, we will present the following awards:
- Adult Learner for a foundational learner who loves learning, inspires others by example and stands out in his or her efforts to learn the essential skills.
- Community Learning Champion for an educator, community leader or strategist who has made a great contribution to community-based adult foundational learning.
- Learning Communities for a foundational learning group or program that stands out in innovation, effectiveness and breadth of reach into the adult learning community.

Keynote Speaker Rob Cardinal: Rob was a high school dropout who eventually overcame poverty, substance abuse, and a major depression in his youth allowing him to eventually complete his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Astronomy. He is currently a Research Associate in planetary science at the University of Calgary. Using his unique moving object detection software, he has discovered two comets which bear his name and one near-Earth Asteroid.
* Foundational learning refers to the acquisition of the basic skills adults require to fully participate in life: the ability to participate as neighbours and citizens, have satisfying employment, and prepare to pursue further learning.
