The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, today announced the appointment of Mr. John W. Hodder to the board of directors of the St. John’s Port Authority until March 2017.
During his career, Mr. Hodder has served in numerous managerial and chair positions.
Mr. Hodder was a conciliator with the Newfoundland/Labrador (NL) Labour Relations Agency from 2001 to 2012, where he mediated issues for both private and public sector contract negotiations. Prior to that, he occupied various positions with the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture of Newfoundland and Labrador, dating back to 1987.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Administration from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Mr. Hodder was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal for outstanding community service in 2012, recognizing his long involvement in a variety of service organizations, including the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, the Canadian Registered Safety Professionals, the Interdepartmental Training and Development Committee of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Safety Services Newfoundland Labrador, the Newfoundland and Labrador Lung Association, the Atlantic Region Canadian Marine Advisory Council, the Air Force Association of Canada, and the Association of Kinsmen, Kinette & Kin Clubs of Canada.
Mr. Hodder was the first recipient of the National Award for Outstanding Service and Excellence by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering in 1999. In 1998, he was invested into the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem by the Governor General of Canada for lifetime dedication to occupational health and safety. Mr. Hodder also received outstanding service awards from Hostelling International-Canada (1992), the Canada Safety Council (1986) and Kin Canada (1984).
