Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Protecteur arrived in Pearl Harbor today. HMCS Protecteur will remain in Hawaii for an undetermined period of time while an initial damage assessment is conducted.

An investigation has also been initiated following significant damage sustained during a fire in its engine room on February 27.

• Protecteur was towed to Pearl Harbor by Fleet Ocean tug United States Navy Ship (USNS) Sioux with United States Ship (USS)Chosin in company.
• On February 27, Protecteur was sailing on a return trip to Canada, after completing two months of successful operations and training with the United States Navy, when the fire began.
• Senior leaders from the Royal Canadian Navy, including Commodore Bob Auchterlonie, Commander Canadian Fleet Pacific, met HMCS Protecteur on its arrival inPearl Harbor.
• The crew of Protecteur will shift their focus to support the fire investigation and prepare the ship for its eventual return toEsquimalt. 
• Medical and social services will continue to be provided to Protecteur’s crew as well as their families inCanada. The families are receiving support and assistance from the Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt’s Military Family Resource Centre.
• Throughout this incident, the United States Navy and the United States Coast Guard have provided outstanding support to the Royal Canadian Navy. This is a reflection of the strong relationship and high level of interoperability between our navies.
