Big screen wizard Daniel Radcliffe has signed on to play a stressed-out civil engineer in a period drama about the building of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The "Harry Potter" star will play Washington Roebling, a "brilliant but inexperienced engineer" who oversaw the construction of the famous New York bridge that links Brooklyn to Manhattan, reports dailystar.co.uk.

In the film, Roebling is forced to take over the construction when his architect father passes away.

"Beseiged by calamity, danger and doubt, Washington's obsession threatens his health", said a press release from Goldcrest Films.

The film will begin shooting in August and will be directed by Douglas McGrath.

“Having Daniel’s involvement is a massive coup for the film, not only is he perfect for the role, but he’s consistently proved himself to be one of the very few actors who is genuinely a massive draw for audiences of all ages," said Pascal Degove, managing director, Goldcrest Films.
