The Governments of Canada and Quebec grant more than $22,600 to Production des Chutes inc. for soil conservation

January 21, 2014 08:14 AM

Gerry Ritz, federal Minister of Agriculture, and Jean-Marie Claveau, MNA for Dubuc, on behalf of the Honourable François Gendron, Deputy Premier of Quebec and Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, are pleased to announce financial support of $22,683 to build soil conservation works in the municipality of Saint-Honoré.

This support is being granted under component 1 of the Prime-Vert Program, funded under the Canada-Quebec agreement Growing Forward 2.

“Sustainable eco-friendly agricultureis an important contributor to the Canadian and Quebec economies “Minister said. “Through Growing Forward 2, we continue to invest in projects that promote the sustainable development of agricultural activity in an environmentally responsible manner.”

“I am pleased that we are encouraging projects under Prime-Vert because the program promotes the sustainable development of agriculture. This is in line with the goals of our Food Sovereignty Policy,” Mr. Gendron said.

“It is always good to see the governments of Canada and Quebec pooling their resources for projects to reduce the environmental problems particular to our Saguenay – Lac-St-Jean region,” Mr. Claveau added.

Prime-Vert is an agri-environmental support program that helps agricultural producers meet environmental protection challenges. Through this financial assistance, Production des Chutes will be able to carry out works on its land to control water erosion, particularly during snowmelt. Ultimately, the work will reduce agricultural non-point source pollution and conserve biodiversity in the area.
