Sharif cancels Switzerland visit over terror attacks

 Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has cancelled his visit to Switzerland in view of the recent terrorist attacks in the country, his office said Sunday.

"Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has decided to cancel his visit to Davos, Switzerland in wake of recent spike in terror incidents and Bannu tragedy," Xinhua quoted a PM office statement as saying.

"Our nation is united against extremism and terrorism and the sacrifices rendered by our citizens and personnel of law enforcing agencies will not go in vain", Sharif said in the statement.

The prime minister was scheduled to leave for Davos, Switzerland Jan 21 to represent Pakistan at the meeting of the World Economic Forum at Davos.

In the latest incident, at least 22 security personnel were killed and 38 injured when the Pakistani Taliban attacked an army convoy in the country' Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Sunday.

The attack occurred as the convoy was carrying soldiers from Bannu district to Miranshah area in the tribal region of North Waziristan when it was targeted with a bomb in the cantonment area, the Dawn reported.

Claiming responsibility for the attack, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) said attacks on the security forces would continue.
