Sri Lanka probes attack on churches

Sri Lanka has begun probe into a mob attack on two churches in the south of the country, police said Monday.

Eight monks are among 24 suspects identified as being involved in the attack on two churches in Hikkaduwa Sunday, Xinhua quoted police spokesperson Ajith Rohana as saying.

Rohana, however, said that no arrests have been made as the police are awaiting an order from the court.

A mob led by Buddhist monks attacked the Calvary Free church and Assembly of God (AOG) church in Hikkaduwa when Sunday mass was underway.

The two churches were severely damaged and equipment destroyed.
