Oath taking ceremony unlikely Thursday: Kejriwal

New Delhi: AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, who will be Delhi's chief minister, Wednesday said that the swearing in ceremony was unlikely to take place Thursday as the party had not yet received a call from Lt Governor Najeeb Jung.

“We have not received any call from Lt Governor yet. It is unlikely that the oath taking ceremony will take place tomorrow (Dec 26),” Kejriwal told the media.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has said that the swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place at the Ramlila Maidan, where an anti-corruption movement, led by Anna Hazare, was launched in 2011. AAP was born out of the movement in 2012.

Kejriwal said that he would personally talk to Hazare once the date is finalized.

“I will talk to Anna ji once the date is confirmed. I will invite him,” he said.

The AAP, which sent the names of six ministers - Manish Sisodia, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Somnath Bharti, Rakhi Birla, Satyendra Jain and Girish Soni - to Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung Tuesday said that the portfolios will be distributed only after the swearing in ceremony.

AAP, which netted 28 seats in the 70-member Delhi assembly, is all set to form the government with support from the Congress that bagged eight seats. The BJP, which emerged as the single largest party with 31 seats, decided not to form the government.

On Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi’s statement that the Congress was divided over support to AAP, Kejriwal said that he was forming the government only on issues and not entering into an alliance with any party.

“We will put forward the issues before the Vidhan Sabha, be it slashing electricity prices or providing free water. Legislators who want to work for the people of Delhi can support us,” he said.

He added that the party had begun doing its "homework" on the promises made in their manifesto and was working closely with Delhi government officials in a bid to implement them as soon as possible.
