Introduction
As we end this year, General Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff, is proud to announce new appointments and assignments in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). These officers lead the CAF in the defence of Canada’s values and interests, at home and abroad.

Please see below some promotions and assignments to senior roles as general officers that have been added to those announced earlier this year:
- Brigadier–General K.R. Cotten was appointed Director General – Public Affairs, at National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ), in Ottawa, replacing Brigadier–General J.C. Madower.
- Brigadier–General J.C. Madower was appointed Project Leader – Maritime Helicopter Project, atNDHQ, in Ottawa.
- Brigadier–General M.A. Matheson was appointed Director General – Compensation and Benefits, at NDHQ, in Ottawa, replacing Commodore L. Bisson.
- Colonel J.J.M.J. Paul was promoted Brigadier–General and will be appointed Commander – Task Force Jerusalem (Operation PROTEUS), replacing Brigadier–General M.J. Pearson.
- Colonel J.S. Sirois was promoted Brigadier–General and appointed Project Leader – Military Personnel Management Capability Transformation Project, at NDHQ, in Ottawa, replacing Brigadier–General K.R. Cotten.
- Captain (N) M.D. Wood was promoted Commodore and appointed Director General – Naval Force Development, at NDHQ, in Ottawa.
- Colonel R.R.E. MacKenzie was promoted Brigadier–General and appointed Deputy Commander – 3rd Canadian Division, in Edmonton, replacing Brigadier–General P.J. Bury.
- After distinguished service to Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces, Brigadier–General M.J. Pearson will be retiring.
