Dozens of people Thursday gathered here for a candle light vigil intended at raising awareness on the dark world of human trafficking.

The people, who gathered at the Central Park in the city centre, also sought to express solidarity with hundreds of people being trafficked every day from various parts of the world and forcefully made to work as bonded labourers and sex workers.

"Though the government and police put their best efforts to curb human trafficking, but there is a lot of sensitization needed and efforts made by the people themselves to stop human trafficking," said social activist Aashima Samuels, who organized the vigil.

She said that a lot of trafficking cases could be avoided just by being a bit vigilant and alert about the kind of people living around.

Many women from the slums in the city also participated.
