Nairobi, Dec 12 (IANS)

Kenyan national cricket team captain Collins Obuya resigned Wednesday citing the country's failure to qualify for the 2014 Twenty20 World Cup scheduled for March/April 2014 in Bangladesh, Xinhua reported.

Cricket Kenya board has chosen Rakeep Patel to replace the embattled Obuya, who was recently caught in an altercation with fellow teammate.

Cricket Kenya CEO Kobus Olivier confirmed Obuya's resignation, disclosing that the national coach, Zimbabwean Robin Brown has also quit the technical bench due to personal reasons.

"It is true the two have quit their positions in the bench and former World Cup veteran Steve Tikolo has been named as interim coach," Olivier told Xinhua by telephone in Nairobi.

Kenya failed in its quest to qualify for the event after losing six consecutive matches to Afghanistan.
