New Delhi, Dec 8
The BJP will form governments in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, party president Rajnath Singh said Sunday.
Talking to media persons after a BJP parliamentary board meeting here, he said the BJP gained from popularity of its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and also that of the chief ministerial candidates.
"BJP got the affection of people because of the popularity of its chief ministerial candidates and our prime ministerial candidate," he said.
Asked if the party failed to get absolute majority in Delhi due to delay in declaring its chief ministerial candidate, Rajnath Singh did not give a direct reply.
"The decision is taken at an appropriate time. In Delhi also, it was part of the strategy," he said.
He said Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be the chief minister in Madhya Pradesh where the party won two-thirds majority.
The BJP registered a sweeping victory in Rajasthan and retained Chhattisgarh. It emerged as the single largest party in Delhi.
Rajnath Singh said the party won for the third successive time in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh due to good governance.
Taking a dig at the Congress, he said the party made tall claims of development.
Rajnath Singh expressed confidence that the BJP will emerge victorious in the 2014 general elections.
He announced the names of central observers who will attend meetings in the four states.
Sushma Swaraj, Ananth Kumar and Rajiv Pratap Rudy will attend the meeting of BJP legislators in Madhya Pradesh, Arun Jaitley and Kaptan Singh Solanki in Rajasthan, Nitin Gadkari and Thawar Chand Gehlot in Delhi, and M. Venkaiah Naidu, J.P. Nadda and Dharmendra Pradhan in Chhattisgarh.
Modi also attended the meeting.
