RCMP begins nationwide impaired driving enforcement campaign

December 03, 2013 09:25 AM

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) launched a national impaired driving enforcement campaign to coincide with National Safe Driving Week, December 1-7, 2013.

“We chose National Safe Driving Week to begin this campaign as part of a long-term organizational priority,” says Bob Paulson, Commissioner of the RCMP. “Each year thousands of Canadians are injured or killed by impaired drivers and we chose this week to step up enforcement efforts to take alcohol and drug impaired drivers off the road, but we won’t stop here.”

On December 7, 2013, in jurisdictions across the country, the RCMP will conduct a coordinated impaired driving enforcement initiative. On that day, officers will be out and visible looking actively for people driving under the influence.

Over the coming months the RCMP will be increasing enforcement and awareness efforts in all RCMP jurisdictions to stop alcohol and drug impaired drivers.

“Impaired driving is an entirely preventable cause of death and injuries that devastates families and communities,” says Paulson. “A small decision can have great consequences, please make the right choice before you get behind the wheel. Everyone has the right to come home safe. ”

RCMP members work tirelessly to keep our roads, and Canadians, safe. The RCMP is building upon many of the great impaired driving enforcement initiatives already underway in RCMP jurisdictions.
