New Delhi, June 11: Actress Priyanka Chopra's father Dr. Ashok Chopra breathed his last today at the Kokilaben Ambani hospital in Mumbai. He was suffering from cancer since 2008. The Chopra clan including the actress, her mother and younger brother were with him at the time of death.
Several members of the film industry, including Genelia Deshmukh, Bipasha Basu, Vishal Dadlani and Anubhav Sinha, among others, tweeted their condolences.
Dr Chopra was a physician in the Indian Army and was stationed at various cities in the country. After his daughter became an actor in Bollywood in 2000, the Chopra couple moved to Mumbai. He was also a singer and in 2011, he released an album of shabads (verses from the Guru Granth Sahib).
Dr Chopra was first diagnosed with cancer in 2005, when Priyanka was shooting for Rohan Sippy's Bluffmaster. The cancer, however, recently resurfaced. He was last seen at an awards function in Vancouver in April this year, where Priyanka bagged the Best Actress trophy for playing the role of an autistic girl in Barfi!.
As someone who was very attached to her father, the actress recently had "Daddy's Little Girl" tattooed on her wrist. On Friday, Priyanka had even organised a Mahamrityunjay puja at her home.
