Governor General's Academic All-Canadian Commendation

His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will present the first Governor General’s Academic All-Canadian Commendation to eight recipients, during a ceremony at Rideau Hall, on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at 10:30 a.m.

 

The Governor General’s Academic All-Canadian Commendation recognizes student-athletes who have maintained an average of 80 per cent or better over the academic year while playing on one or more of their university’s varsity teams. These “Top Eight Academic All-Canadians” are selected by Canadian Interuniversity Sport.

 

Below is the list of the top eight 2012-2013 recipients of the Governor General’s Academic All-Canadian Commendation:

  • Monica MacDonald - University of New Brunswick - Swimming - Kinesiology
  • Travis Gibbons - Acadia University - Hockey - Kinesiology/Professional Studies
  • Émilie Chamard - Université de Montréal - Soccer - Medicine (Neuropsychology)
  • Laurent Duvernay-Tardif - McGill University - Football - Medicine
  • Alicia Brown - University of Toronto - Track & Field - Visual Culture & Communications
  • Steven Takahashi - Western University - Wrestling - Kinesiology/Health Science
  • Jaki Ellis - University of Alberta - Volleyball - Kinesiology/Physical Education & Recreation
  • Paul Clerc - University of British Columbia - Soccer - Kinesiology/Health Science

Each year, over 2 600 Canadian Interuniversity Sport student-athletes achieve an academic average of 80 per cent or higher, demonstrating their commitment to success in the classroom as well as on the playing field. These recipients represent the best and brightest, having achieved outstanding academic success while representing their university on varsity teams.
