UN chief condemns terrorist attack in Iran

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon Thursday condemned a recent terrorist attack in Iran's Saravan city which killed over a dozen Iranian border guards, his spokesperson said.

The UN chief condemned the attack, while extending his condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the Iranian people and government, UN spokesperson Martin Nesirky said here at a regular briefing when asked about the incident, Xinhua reported.

Ban also noted with serious concern the reported hanging of 16 people following the attack, Nesirky added.

cording to Iranian media, 17 Iranian border guards were killed in an armed clash Friday near Saravan city bordering Pakistan, in the Sistan and Baluchestan province. 

On Saturday, Iranian authorities hanged 16 prisoners, who are " rebels" of an unspecified armed group, in revenge for the attack.
