TransCanada closes down pipeline follwoing natural gas leak detected near Fort McMurray

October 18, 2013 09:33 AM

Edmonton: Transcanada is researching after a common gas hole was caught in a northeastern Alberta pipeline early Thursday.

Around 2:50 AM, Transcanada's gas control focus caught a drop in force on a segment of its north-focal hallway regular gas pipeline, said organization agent Shawn Howard.

The area is part of the organization's Nova Gas Transmission Limited framework, and happened between the Wooden House and Buffalo compressor stations, found 138 km west of Fort Mcmurray.

"It was established that an arrival of regular gas has happened in a remote territory of the region," Howard said in a message.

Transcanada close down operations of the pipeline Thursday, and said the territory was being secured and segregated.

Rebecca Taylor, a representative with the National Energy Board, said individuals were being sent Thursday to set up a crisis operations focus, guarantee security and stabilize the site.

Transcanada said clients in the territory have been told, however it is not recognized what the effect on conveyances to them will be.

The site is an "extremely segregated, remote territory," Howard said. The closest living arrangement is more than 50 km away.

Taylor said a work camp close-by was not cleared.

A representative with the Alberta Energy Regulator said they are mindful of the break, yet have no immediate contribution as it falls under the purview of the National Energy Board.

The reason and the measure spilled are not yet known. Transcanada and the National Energy Board are investigating the matter.
