Recreating the magic of words - Satish Bedaag

Satish Bedaag receives appreciation for his work

CI Correspondent: Do you feel that these days the number of readers has reduced?

Satish Bedaag: I don’t take it that way, In earlier times, population was less and resources were limited. Now, those who do not go to buy books, they read blogs and e-books on their mobile phones. The virtual world has got people closer, you post something sitting in India, and within minutes you get comments and reactions from the readers from Europe and America. I mean the new comers have got a dependable platform.

CI Correspondent: What do you want to do for the masses in the capacity of a poet?

Satish Bedaag: I want my poetry to play its part in bringing harmony in the world. I expect that I use my pen to write and my writing in turn brings hearts closer, bring the people of various races, castes and creeds together. That is what I aim as a poet.

CI Correspondent: Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?

Satish Bedaag: In 10 years, I wish to be in a better world. Where there is no fear of terrorism. Where there are no religious or other disharmonies. Where there is no child labour. The world where our daughters are safe. Where the common man can breathe in a corruption-free atmosphere. Where the Indian rupee is closer to the US dollar.

‘Waqt ka thaan ho gaya maila

Ab tum isko samet lo, yaarab

Na na is qism ka nahin, Kuchh aur

Mujh ko to de de halke rang me koi

Saaf sa mere map ka tukda

Abke main maila hone doonga nahin’

English Translation:

(The cloth of time has got soiled

Roll it back now, O God’

What I want is something else

Give me a piece of my size, I pray

Clean and in some light the shade

I won’t let it soil this time.)
