Dr Anmol Kapoor- Endowing millions with heart beats, smiles, hopes

CI correspondent:             Dr. Kapoor we want to know more about your initiative of being associated with the DIL Walk organization.

Dr. Kapoor: DILWalk.ca foundation was started with an aim to promote health awareness globally among south Asians. It’s a charity organization, often called as NGO (Non-Government Organization) in India, that wants to create awareness that South Asians are 3-5 times higher risk of heart attacks, and its complications. It would also like to help provide education, resources, and free medications to poor in India. DIL Walk foundation needs funds as these projects wouldn’t succeed without funds. I urge people to become a part of this organization and help raise funds. We ask people watch our movies and profits generated from movies will be donated to Dilwalk Foundation.

CI correspondent: Do you wish to expand it faster and taking it to different cities in Canada and other parts of the world?

Dr. Kapoor: I would like to grow slowly in Canada and all over the world. As we are reaching out to the South Asian community in Canada, we would like take next step and start DIL Walk in India. I would like to tie up with the NGOs there and seek out opportunities to collaborate. My family is into medicine business and this will help us provide medications at cheaper prices to the needy. Hopefully, this project will start next year. We would like to keep it a non-political and non-religious organization.

CI Correspondant: Can you please tell us about your family and your childhood? And, how you became heart specialist?

Dr. Kapoor: I belong to a middle class family. I have seen struggles as anybody else. I come from Nabha, a city near Patiala and my father runs a chemist shop there. My mother used to work as a clerk in the public health department of Punjab government. At age of 19, I went to Russia to learn medicine and came to Canada in 2000. I also struggled as any other immigrant and kept working hard. I completed my MD (medicine) at University of Alberta and Cardiology training was completed at the University of Manitoba.

CI correspondent: Dr. Kapoor you are related to Dilwalk community that spreads health awareness and on a candid note, I would like to know your favorite FAST FOOD.

Dr. Kapoor: Ok. Sharing my favorite food, I like to have honey oats sub (bread) toasted with swiss cheese, vegetables, sweet onion and hot sauce. It’s healthy as well as nourishing for me.
